Sewer and Drain Plumbing Services in Houston

Sewer problems repeat. A fixture clog happens once and gets cleared. A main line problem comes back every few weeks, affects more than one fixture, and eventually backs up into the house. If you are on your third clearing this year, the line itself is the issue.

Common sewer line problems

Roots entering at joints, following the moisture, then catching solids

Cast iron that has scaled and corroded from the inside over decades

Clay pipe with offset or separated joints

A sagging section, sometimes called a belly, where waste collects

Crushed or collapsed pipe from soil movement or heavy loads above

Grease accumulation, especially on commercial lines

How the problem is identified

Clearing the line restores flow. A camera inspection tells you why it stopped. Those are two separate services and they answer different questions. If a plumber recommends a major repair, seeing the line on camera first is a reasonable request.

Houston specifics

Older neighborhoods here still have cast iron and clay sewer lines in service. Soil movement during the swing from drought to heavy rain stresses those joints, and mature trees find the moisture. That combination is why root intrusion and offset joints are such common findings on camera.

Heavy rain also matters. If backups only happen during storms, that is a different conversation than a line that backs up on a dry Tuesday.

Questions people ask us

Why does my sewer back up only sometimes?

A partial blockage passes normal flow and fails under load, so it shows up on laundry day or when several fixtures run together. Roots also swell and shift, so the same line can behave differently week to week. Intermittent backups usually mean a restriction that has not fully closed yet.

Do I need a camera inspection or just a cleaning?

Cleaning is enough for a first time blockage that clears normally. A camera inspection earns its cost when the problem repeats, when someone is proposing to dig, when you want to know pipe material and condition, or before buying a property with mature trees and an older line.

Who is responsible for the sewer line in the yard?

Responsibility is typically split between the property owner and the utility at a defined point, and the specifics depend on your service address and local rules. Confirm it with the utility for your address rather than assuming, and mention what you find when requesting service.
